Residence 338 , by Subash & Associates

In the tranquil locale of Sector 9, Chandigarh, Residence 338 is designed to accommodate the needs of a multi-generational family while maintaining privacy and unity. The seamless blend of modern architectural elements, monochrome interiors, and well-planned outdoor spaces creates a home that is not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing.

Concept and Vision

The essence of the project was to design a harmonious abode for a family with three distinct units: one for the parents and two for their sons, each with their own families. The layout of the house balances privacy and connectivity. The ground floor accommodates the parents’ unit, seamlessly linked to the duplex through double-height spaces that foster an open and airy ambiance. Ingeniously, the first floor is divided into two distinct sections, each designed to cater to the needs of the sons’ families. These sections are interconnected by a bridge, fostering a sense of unity while preserving individual privacy.

A standout feature of this residence is the basement, designed as a communal gathering space for family get-togethers. Accessible from both within the house and from the lawn, the basement offers a versatile venue ideal for hosting parties and family events.

Exterior Facade and Architectural Features

The exterior facade of the house is a striking composition of modern architectural elements, thoughtfully designed to captivate and inspire. Dominating the front is a prominent rectangular block that boldly protrudes outward, seamlessly paired with a vertical wall, creating a dynamic visual impact that draws the eye. This architectural feature not only infuses the facade with depth and character but also serves as a distinctive element that cohesively binds the entire design.

The massing of the building is crafted to harmonize with the overall layout. The interplay of cantilevered sections with vertical and horizontal lines forms a balanced and aesthetically pleasing structure. The careful use of stone in the facade enhances the house’s contemporary allure while ensuring a timeless appeal.

Interior Design and Materials

The interiors are characterized by a serene and cohesive monochrome palette. From the entrance to the second floor, the primary materials of stone, veneer, and grey tones, creating a seamless flow and a sense of unity throughout the home.

This monochromatic base, while inherently tranquil, is punctuated with strategically placed pops of color through carefully selected artwork and decor. These vibrant accents add life into the spaces, ensuring that each room retains its distinct character without disrupting the overall harmony. This approach not only highlights the architectural elements but also underscores the functionality of each space.

Designed with a keen eye for utility and circulation, the interiors are crafted to maximize functionality while maintaining an open, uncluttered feel. The lounge areas, dining spaces, and private rooms are thoughtfully arranged to offer direct access to the lush lawns, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor living.

Every element within the house is purposefully chosen to contribute to its minimalist ethos.

Landscaping and Outdoor Spaces

The property boasts two lawns—one gracing the front and the other adorning the side. The side lawn holds particular significance, providing direct access from the lounge and dining areas, effectively creating an extended living space that seamlessly merges the indoors with the outdoors. An entrance from the lawn to the basement adds remarkable versatility to the outdoor spaces, making it exceptionally convenient for hosting gatherings and family activities.
